Sheikh Hasina’s downfall is comforting in the public mind

Starting from student movement to mass movement. The last fall of the Hasina government. The whole country is rejoicing in an unprecedented joy of newly independent Bangladesh. The quota reform movement of the students started after the court verdict upholding the quota on July 1. All Awami organizations including Chhatra League, Awami League, Jubo League were brought to the ground to stop the movement. After that, the recently resigned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made a speech calling the students Razakar’s grandsons. Then the student society became excited. The movement began to take the form of a great movement.

The Hasina government then started using the police force to suppress the students through underhanded tactics. The procession of death began to increase. Ordinary students were killed one by one across the country.

Even if it is not possible to control the movement, curfew is given. Students broke the curfew and took to the streets. After that, the number of victims increased, but the student society did not withdraw from the movement. Bangladesh’s opposition political party Jamaat-e-Islami was banned by executive order. Leaders and activists of opposition parties and organ organizations were arrested.

Prisons become overcrowded. 6 coordinators who led the students were detained in the DB office and the announcement to stop the movement was made. Despite all this, the Hasina government could not stop the student movement in any way. Shots in the chest of students, torture by law enforcement officers, all these things come together and spread to every family. Mass movement started.

This movement which spread across the country in full swing from July 18 became somewhat normal with the fall of the Hasina government. From the morning of August 5, almost half a million students started occupying Hasina government’s Ganabhaban. By noon, everyone entered the Ganabhaban. At the same time, some parts entered inside the parliament building. At 3:50 pm after noon, Chief of Army Staff General Wakaruzzaman said that Sheikh Hasina has left the country by submitting her resignation letter to President Md. Sahabuddin.

As a result of the ‘Long March to Dhaka’ program called by the anti-discrimination student movement, the fall of the Awami government rang the bell. In his address to the nation at 3:50 pm, Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman told the students that every murder will be judged, every injustice will be judged. He also urged the agitating students to return home while all your (people) demands will be met.
