Fire in Cox’s Bazar: 4 injured, including fire service member
A massive fire broke out at a gas filling station in the Kolatoli area of Cox’s Bazar town following a gas leak, leaving nine people injured, including four members of the Fire Service.
Seven units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, along with an Army firefighting team, were deployed to the scene to bring the blaze under control.
Officer-in-Charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, Chhami Uddin, confirmed the incident.
According to police, a leak developed in the gas line of the pump on Wednesday (25 February) evening. At around 10:30pm, a powerful explosion occurred at the station, igniting a major fire. Firefighters from seven units and an Army firefighting team rushed to the site and began efforts to douse the flames. Although the intensity of the fire had reduced by around 11:30pm, it had not been fully brought under control at that time.
The fire gutted seven to eight vehicles parked at the filling station. The incident triggered panic in the surrounding areas, including the nearby Adarsha Gram neighbourhood.
While battling the blaze, four firefighters and five other individuals sustained burn injuries, bringing the total number of injured to nine. The injured were taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. Of them, one person in critical condition was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, while four others were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, police said.
