Security forces must be skilled in using technology – PM
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on all security forces of the country, including the President Guard Regiment (PGR), to be always ready through modern and up-to-date training to face multidimensional challenges.
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a program organized at Dhaka Cantonment on Saturday (July 5) to mark the 51st founding anniversary of the PGR.
Tarique Rahman said that in addition to the current security challenges in the world, cyber warfare, information warfare, electronic warfare and drone technology-based threats have emerged as new realities. All security forces must always be ready through modern and up-to-date training to face these multidimensional challenges.
The Prime Minister said that as a specialized force, the PGR has no room to lag behind in the use of courage, skill, strategy and modern technology. The members of the force must perform the duties assigned to them with dedication, combining professionalism, discipline and loyalty.
Tarique Rahman said that in addition to ensuring the security of important people of the state, the PGR has also been successfully performing the duties of various state ceremonies. The force has become known as one of the most disciplined forces in the country due to its loyalty, sense of duty and professional skills.
The Head of Government said that in recognition of its discipline, the PGR has been nominated for the ‘National Standard’ award this year, which is a matter of great pride for the force.
The Prime Minister further said that in addition to ensuring the security of the state and the head of government, it is also an important responsibility of the security forces to maintain the comfort of citizens’ lives and maintain the government’s connection with the people. The security system must be managed in such a way that the people do not feel separated from the head of government.
In her speech, the Prime Minister also remembered with deep respect the members of the PGR who were killed in the line of duty during the martyrdom of martyred President Ziaur Rahman on May 30, 1981 at the Chittagong Circuit House.
She said that the unique example they have set of sacrificing their lives for the security of the state and the head of government will be a source of inspiration for future generations.
Highlighting the glorious history of PGR, Tarique Rahman said that the then Army Chief Major General Ziaur Rahman played an important role in the development and expansion of this force established in 1975. His leadership and decisions have made the activities of the force more dynamic and self-confident.
At the event, the Prime Minister extended greetings and congratulations to all the former and present officers and members of PGR on their founding anniversary.
