Protesters to march to Noakhali on Oct 16
The protesters against the growing incidents of rape, sexual harassment and violence against women announced they will march from Dhaka to Noakhali on October 16 and a grand rally will be held there on October 17 to press home their demands.
The protesters include general people and leaders and activists from different political organisations. They gathered at the Shahbagh intersection at 3:30 pm and started demonstrations, witnesses said.
The recent gang rape incident at Sylhet MC College and housewife molestation in Begumganj of Noakhali fueled the protests.
Amid the widespread demonstrations against the growing incidents of rape and other forms of violence against women and children, law enforcers went for drastic action against the culprits.
Police arrested some 22 people on charges of rape incidents in different places, including Ashulia in Savar, Sonagazi in Feni, Noakhali, Chandpur, Jashore and Chattogram.
