Fifty percent of pregnant women can deliver without surgery-survey reports
According to the survey report, it was learned that 50 percent of pregnant women suffering from various problems including rupture of water, and contracted uterus before delivery can be delivered without a cesarean section. If the misoprostol juice and Follis catheter method are applied.
Recently, this information was informed in the release ceremony.
The survey report was prepared by the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College. The Head of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department Dr. Munira Ferdowsi presented the survey report recently.
She said that from July 2019 to June 2021, 200 pregnant women admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital were included in the survey. Out of which 100 were in the misoprostol group and the remaining 100 were in the Follis catheter group. Among the women included in the survey, 148 were housewives and 18 were working.
The survey showed that misoprostol juice (traditional medicine) and Foleys catheter had a 64 percent delivery rate and 58 percent vaginal delivery was conducted using misoprostol juice who wanted to have a baby by cesarean.
And 36 percent of those taking both methods and 42 percent of those taking misoprostol juice (traditional medicine) had to have a cesarean.
According to the survey data, there were 18 patients under 25 years of age, 4 of whom were treated with misoprostol alone and 10 with misoprostol juice and Foleys catheter. Among 114 pregnant women aged 25 to 30 years, 64 received misoprostol juice and Follis catheters, and 50 received misoprostol. Among 54 subjects aged 30 to 35 years, 22 received misoprostol juice and Follis catheters, and 32 were administered misoprostol. Besides, 4 out of 14 people over 35 years of age had misoprostol juice and Follis catheter and 10 had misoprostol applied.
Professor Dr. Munira Ferdausi said that there is no risk if a child is delivered in this way by a skilled person. But there is quite a risk for unskilled people. In this case, along with awareness, the pregnant woman should be mentally prepared and counseled for vaginal delivery. Besides, she urged to do checkups at least four times after conception and to increase institutional delivery.
She said about cesarean section, it is not that cesarean section will not happen at all. Those who need it must have a cesarean section. Lately, many people are voluntarily opting for cesarean section to avoid suffering. We have to come out of this thinking.
She said, due to unnecessary surgery in childbirth, infection and excessive bleeding, loss of limbs, blood clots, etc., mothers take much longer to recover than natural childbirth. It can even lead to death. In addition, a cesarean section can also destroy the beneficial aspects of natural birth.
Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Principal Professor Dr. A.B.M. Maksudul Alam, Director of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital Dr. Md. Khalilur Rahman, President of Bangladesh Health Reporters Forum Rashed Rabbi, and many others were present during the survey report unveiling.
