Per kg salt Tk 11 at field level while Tk 38 after packaging
The price of packet salt has increased by Tk 3 per kilogram. At the moment, packet salt of different brands, including ACI, Fresh, Teer and Confidence, is being sold at increased prices, says a media report.
Record amount of salt has been produced at the field level this year. At the same time, the price is very low and per kg of salt is Tk 11.
As a result, question has been raised regarding the price hike issue of salt at wholesale and retail levels.
According to businessmen, the price of packet salt has not increased although price of different products fluctuated last one year. The price of packet salt has increased at the beginning of the last month as price of essentials has hiked in the market now.
It is learnt after analysing salt price from different markets in the city on last Tuesday that per kg salt price of the above mentioned brands is Tk 38 while it was Tk 35 one and a half month ago.
Hamidur Rahman, a businessman of Bismillah Store at Joarshahara Bazar in Dakkhin Kuril in the capital, said, “The price of packet salt has increased after more than a year. All the companies fixed packet salt (per kg) Tk 38 after hiking price by Tk 3.”
He further said, “ Some Tk 50 has been increased for a sack of 50 kg salt at wholesale level. It is now being spent Tk 800 for a sack of Tk 700.”
According to mills owners, the price of slat has not increased at the filed level. Per kg salt is being sold at Tk 10 to Tk 12.
