August 15 is an indelible day in history
August 15, National Day of Mourning. A day of agony stained with the most heinous and brutal massacre in the history of human civilization. On this day in 1975, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the great hero of the liberation movement of the Bengali nation, the architect of the independent Bangladesh state, the father of the nation, was killed by a reactionary gang of assassins with his family.
On that day, Bangabandhu’s wife Sheikh Fazilatun Nesha Mujib, only brother Sheikh Abu Nasser, Mujib’s eldest son Captain Sheikh Kamal, second son Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal, youngest son innocent child Sheikh Russell, newly married daughter-in-law Sultana were victims of this cruelest murder in history. Kamal and Rosi Jamal, Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani, one of the organizers of the Liberation War and his pregnant wife Begum Arju Mani, Abdur Rab Serniabat, one of the organizers of the freedom struggle and sister-in-law of the Father of the Nation, his younger daughter Baby Serniabat, youngest son Arif Serniabat, son-in-law Sukant Abdullah Babu, nephew Shaheed. Serniabat, Abdul Naeem Khan Rintu, Bangabandhu’s Chief Military Secretary Colonel Jamil Uddin Ahmed and the officers and employees on duty.
In the struggle for the liberation of Bengal and Bengali, Bangabandhu inspired the entire nation through his feelings, sacrifices, struggle, heroic leadership, indomitable spirit, determination, deep love for the Bengali nation, compassion, political foresight and ideals to make the ultimate self-sacrifice to achieve independence. The Bangladesh Chhatra League, one of the traditional student organizations of the subcontinent, was born under the leadership of Sheikh Mujib on January 4, 1948, the movement against the declaration of Urdu as the national language in March ’48, the debut of Awami League on June 23, ’49, the national language movement of ’52, the United Front of ’54 Elections, education movement of ’62, 6 points of ’66, Agartala conspiracy case of ’68 and 11 points, popular uprising of ’69, absolute victory of Awami League in the elections of ’70 through various history-making events of the Bengali nation. The desire to achieve freedom leads to the ultimate goal.
Bangabandhu’s historic speech on March 7, 1971 united the Bengali nation on the path of freedom struggle. When he announced the independence of Bangladesh in the early hours of March 26, the armed liberation war began. The freedom of Bangladesh was achieved through nine months of bloody liberation war fueled by the 24-year-long movement-struggle against Pakistani misrule under his timeless leadership.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the symbol of freedom and liberation of Bengalis. He is the absolute relative of the soil and people of Bengal, Timir Bidari Arun of hundred years of Ghor Nishitini, the timeless creator of the amazing leadership of history, the great hero of the history of Bengal, the dreamer of independent Bangladesh, the founder of the independent-sovereign Bangladesh state. He is the father of Bengali nation. The greatest Bengali ever. A dreamer of a developed and prosperous ‘Golden Bengal’.
On August 15, 1975, the murderers did not stop at killing the Father of the Nation, they issued a heinous Indemnity Ordinance to stop the prosecution of this barbaric murder. As a result, the Bengali nation was forced to bear the burden of the stigma of injustice for 21 years. The government formed under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of the father of the nation, put Bangabandhu’s killers on trial and executed the death sentence of the killers in 2010 through a systematic judicial process and freed the Bengali nation from stigma. Bangabandhu ignored all the conspiracies and started the trial of the war criminals despite facing various adversities.
The great Bengali leader Sheikh Mujib Chiranjeev, his spirit is immortal. The undisputed hero of liberation is in the bone marrow of the Bengali nation. The sky-air and water-level of Bengal revealed in Mujibadarsh today. Sheikh Mujib’s immortal spirit and ideals will continue to flow from generation to generation.
The father of the nation wanted to establish a society free from hunger and poverty and without discrimination. He dreamed of emancipation of the people of Bengal under the strong leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of the rightful leader, that dream is being realized today. By conquering hunger and poverty, Bangladesh is being established as a developing and prestigious nation in the world today. Bangladesh is the role model of development in the world today.
Bangladesh Awami League and its affiliates, fraternal and various social-cultural-political organizations will celebrate the National Mourning Day through various programs in an atmosphere of due dignity, respect, love and deep sorrow.
