The EC asked MP Bahar to leave the constituency
The Election Commission (EC) has sent a letter to AQM Bahauddin Bahar, Member of Parliament for Comilla-6 (Sadar) constituency, to leave the City Corporation constituency.
The letter was issued by the Election Commission on Wednesday (June 7). In the evening, Comilla City Corporation (CUSIC) Returning Officer Shahedunnabi Chowdhury confirmed the information.
Independent mayoral candidate Monirul Haque Sakku submitted a written complaint to the Election Commission on June 8. He accused MP Bahauddin Bahar of violating the code of conduct.
According to the complaint, Bahauddin Bahar held an election meeting with the leaders and workers of Awami League and its affiliates in Comilla metropolitan Awami League office. He is also holding election-related meetings with members of various educational institutions, religious institutions, in violation of electoral law.
Sakku further alleged that MP Bahar was holding various orientation meetings with Awami League leaders and activists from Sadar South and Lalmai areas to participate in the elections. This is disturbing the peace and order of the election.
He also called on the Election Commission to take action to prevent the MP from staying in his constituency and participating in such meetings.
