A Cox’s Bazar court has granted bail to Rifatul Islam Sifat, one of the two car mates of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed who was gunned down by on-duty police at one stage of altercation at dead of the night recently.
The bail decision came as regards to three cases over murder and drug-related charges. Two of the cases were filed with Teknaf police station and another with Ramu police station by police.

Tamanna Farah, acting judge of senior judicial magistrate court (Teknaf-3), passed the order on Monday, following bail petitions filed by Sifat’s counsel Mahbub Alam Tipu.

The court also directed police to transfer the investigation of the cases to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
The previous day, a Cox’s Bazar court granted bail to Stamford University student Shipra Rani Devnath, another companions of Sinha, in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.

Major (retd) Sinha was shot dead by cops at Baharchhara police check-post on July 31. Sharmen Shahria Ferdush, elder sister of Sinha, filed a murder case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on Wednesday, implicating nine police personnel.

However, Sifat and Shipra were arrested after police filed separate cases against them.

Seven police personnel, including officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das and inspector Liakat Ali, were suspended in connection with the incident.

Five others are sub-inspector Nanda Dulal Rakshit, assistant sub-inspector Liton Miah and constables Shafanur Rahman, Kamal Hossain and Abdullah Al Mamun.

Pradeep, Liakat and Dulal Rakshit were placed on seven-day remand while the rest were sent to jail by a court on Thursday.
Shipra and two other students of Stamford University — Shahedul Islam Sifat and Tahsin Rifat Nur — had gone to a cottage with Sinha.

Police arrested Shipra and Rifat from Nilima Resort on August 1, recovered liquor and marijuana and filed a narcotics case against them.

Sinha was alleged to have been making travel documentaries for a YouTube channel called ‘Just Go’ with the three university students.
