Swim to keep fit: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary on Sunday encouraged police personnel to take up swimming to keep fit, reports UNB.

“Swimming is an exercise that moves all parts of the body. It keeps both the mind and the body firm,” he said while inaugurating the newly-built Bangladesh Police Swimming Complex at Armed Police Battalion (APBn) Headquarters in Uttara in the afternoon.

APBn’s Additional IGP Md Mosharraf Hossain chaired the ceremony, attended by additional IGPs of police, heads of various police units based in Dhaka and senior officers.IGP Patwary said the lack of swimming pool for police personnel had been felt for quite some time. This shortage has been overcome with the construction of a modern swimming complex.

He said the swimming complex will allow the police personnel and their family members to learn swimming.

The project has been implemented at a cost of around Tk 20 crore. The pool is about 50-metre long and 25-metre wide and has a depth of up to eight feet.

Divided into 10 lanes, the complex can house 336 spectators. There is also a state-of-the-art gym as well as steam and sauna baths. There is also the facility of playing water polo.

The IGP also opened the K9 Kennel Airport APBn Barracks, and on-the-job training centre at the APBn headquarters.
