596 extremists surrender in Pabna

A total of 596 extremists from 15 districts surrendered to the law enforcers by handing over their firearms in Pabna on Tuesday afternoon. They handed over around 68 firearms and 575 locally made weapons in presence of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at Pabna stadium. They also expressed their keen eagerness to back to normal life.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was present in the surrender ceremony. “As the government has given a scope, I want to come back to the path of light from darkness.” Abdur Razzak alias Art Babu, a leader of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Lal Pataka) in Chapainawabganj-Rajshahi region, said.

The extremists from different organisations, including Purba Bangla Communist Party, Purba Bangla Sarbahara Party and Purba Bangla Lal Pataka Party were allegedly involved in anti-social activities, including extortion, murder and kidnapping. The government has taken initiatives for rehabilitation of the extremists so that they can return to their normal life.

The extremists from Pabna, Natore, Sirajganj, Bogura, Rangpur, Joypurhat, Naogaon, Tangail, Kushtia, Rajbari, Khulna, Satkhira, Faridpur, Bagerhat, and Jashore submited firearms at the function as per these initiatives. Tight security was taken in Pabna district ahead of the surrender ceremony.
