OIC representatives visit Cox’s Bazar Rohingya camps

A high-profile delegation of representatives of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation countries reached Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar Friday morning.
Bangladesh foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali is accompanying the representatives of the OIC-member countries and different organisations, our correspondent reports.
The representatives will attend the 45th annual session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Dhaka on Saturday with a special focus on Rohingya crisis.
Foreign minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali at a press conference on Thursday said that over 500 delegates comprising representatives from the 57 member states, observers, OIC-related organisations and different international bodies will attend the meeting in Dhaka.
He added that 40 of them were ministers and state ministers.
‘Rohingya issue will get a special focus during the Dhaka CFM [Council of Foreign Ministers]. There will be a separate session on the Rohingya crisis as well,’ he said.
Bangladesh and international aid groups are struggling to cope with Rohingya crisis as about 7,00,000 Rohingyas, mostly women, children and aged people, have entered Bangladesh fleeing unbridled murder, arson and rape during ‘security operations’ by Myanmar military in Rakhine, what the United Nations denounced as ethnic cleansing, since August 25, 2017.
The OIC is the second largest inter-governmental organisation after the United Nations spread over four continents with 57 member countries. OIC, also collective voice of Muslims, was established following the criminal arson of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem in 1969.
Bangladesh is a member of OIC since 1974 and hosted the first council of foreign ministers meeting in 1983.
