5.5 magnitude earthquake jolts Dhaka and parts of country

A mild tremor of 5.5 magnitude jolted Dhaka and parts of the country around 3:09pm on Tuesday afternoon.

An official of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said to media “The epicenter of the earthquake was 176 kilometers from Dhaka Seismic Observatory at Agargaon. The earthquake was felt at 3.9 pm today”.

However, the pinpoint of the earthquake was 16 kilometres from Kumarghat at Tripura in India. Many residents in the capital rushed out on the streets after feeling the tremor.

A schoolgirl was died in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj district as she desperately tried to rush out of his home after the earthquake jolted this afternoon.

Besides, three people, injured in the panic rush in different areas of the district, have been admitted to the Osmani Medical College and Hospital.
