Santu Larma demands full implementation of CHT Accord
On the day of the 19th anniversary of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Peace Accord, Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghaty Samity (PCJSS) President Santu Larma reiterated his demand of full implementation of the accord for the sake of the hill tracts people.
Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma, popularly known as Santu Larma, on Friday came up with the demand while addressing a discussion at a Dhaka hotel on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of CHT Peace Accord.
Underlining the importance of the accord’s implementation for the people of the hill tracts area, he said, “CHT Accord is the certificate of protecting the existence of the people of CHT areas. If it is not implemented properly their existence will be at stake.”
Criticising the government, Santu Larma further said authority is unwilling to implement the accord.
“We will continue our Non-Cooperation Movement (which was started in 2014) based on previously declared ten point programmes aiming at a proper implementation of the CHT Accord,” he said.
Terming CHT Affairs secretary Nabo Bikram Kishor Tripura and state minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing as ‘pawn’ of the government.
Speaking at the programme, Professor Mesbah Kamal of Dhaka University alleged that the incumbent government is not sincere about completely implementing the peace accord.
President of Oikya Nap Pankaj Bhattacharya, Barrister Sara Hossain, Sanjeeb Drong, General Secretary of Bangladesh Indigenous Peoples Forum, and Communist Party of Bangladesh President Mujahidul Islam Selim were also present at the programme among others.
