SC set July 25 to hear Mir Quasem’s review plea
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) today set July 25 to hear the review plea of war crimes convict Mir Quasem Ali.
Chamber Judge of the SC Justice Hasan Foez Siddique set the date following a government petition for fixing a date for hearing on the review petition.
The apex court passed the order following a state petition that pleaded for fixing date to hold hearing on the application of Mir Quasem Ali, seeking review of the Appellate Division judgment that upheld his death originally handed down by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2.
Earlier on June 19, the 1971 Al-Badr commander filed the 68-page review plea to the department concerned of the apex court, seeking acquittal on 14 grounds.
On June 6, 2016, the apex court released the full text of its 244-page judgement. The ICT-2 also issued death warrant on the same day against Mir Quasem, paving way for executing him for his monstrous role in 1971.
