MRPs earn Tk 731cr as revenue in last 6 months: Home Minister

The Department of Immigration and Passports (DIP) has issued machine-readable passports (MRPs) and earned Taka 731,73,36,000 as revenue till May 2016 since July 2015.

 

“The Department of Immigration and Passports (DIP) from its divisional and regional passport offices issued MRPs and earned Taka 731,73,36,000 as revenue,” Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan disclosed this in the Jatiya Sangsad Sunday.

 

Replying to a question from treasury bench member Begum Fazilatun Nesa Bappy, Asaduzzaman said Agargaon regional passport and visa office issued passports and earned Taka 97,94,69,026 as revenue from July 2015 to May 2016, BSS reports.

 

Asaduzzaman Khan said Mansurabad, Chittagong, regional passport and visa office issued passports and earned Taka 32,60,11,197 as revenue, while Sylhet passport and visa office earned Taka25,27,86,600 as revenue during the same period.

 

In this way Khulna and Rajshahi passport and visa offices issued MRPs and earned Taka 11,95,42,563 and Taka 9,16,52,869 as revenue respectively, he informed the House, saying the other regional and divisional passport and visa offices also issued MRPs and earned revenue during the same period.

 

Extradition treaty with two countries signed

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Sunday said Bangladesh has signed extradition treaty with countries– India and United Arab Emirates [UAE].

 

“The government has signed an agreement on “Transfer of Sentenced Persons (TSP)” with India in January 2010,” he said while replying to a question from treasury bench member MA Malek in the Jatiya Sangsad.

 

The minister said Bangladesh signed the extradition treaty with the UAE on October 27, 2014.

 

Replying to another question from opposition bench Begum Salma Islam of Dhaka-1, Asaduzzaman Khan said his ministry has undertaken various initiatives to prevent human trafficking specially women and children.

 

The government enacted Women and Children Trafficking Prevention and Control Act, 2012, for checking women and children trafficking.

 

He informed the House that the government has also issued necessary directives to law enforcement agencies to adopt a ‘zero tolerance’ policy toward human traffickers.
