Bandwidth price cut by 41% in bangladesh

Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Ltd (BSCCL) on Monday slashed the price of internet bandwidth by 41 percent with effect from Tuesday.

The state-owned company fixed the price at Tk 625 instead of the existing Tk 1068 for each megabit per second (Mbps) for a bundle of 10 gigabits.

“Internet gateway operators can purchase each megabits per second (Mbps) of bandwidth with Tk 625 instead of the existing Tk 1068 from tomorrow (Tuesday),” said BSCCL Managing Director Monwar Hossain told UNB over phone.

The reduced price will be effective for only Dhaka, Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar initially. The price will be reduced in other districts in phases, he said.

The decision came following the Prime Minister’s directives to make the internet prices cheaper and to bring down the prices within reach of the common people, Monwar said.

The internet users will be benefited if the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) fixes the selling prices for internet gateway operators and internet service providers, the BSCCL managing director said.

Now, BSCCL uses only 32 gigabits per second (Gbps) of internet bandwidth out of its capacity of 200 Gbps.
