12 Bangladeshis wounded in Libyan robbers attack
Armed robbers attacked a camp of Bangladesh nationals in Ajdabiya, a Libyan city 850 km off its capital Tripoli, leaving 12 Bangladeshis wounded with bullets, said a Bangladeshi diplomat on Tuesday.
“Four of the injured Bangladesh nationals had to undergo immediate surgeries to get the bullets out,” Counsellor (Labour) at Bangladesh Mission for Libya, now shifted to Tunisia, ASM Ashraful Islam told UNB confirming the incident that took place early Friday, UNB reports.
The Libyan robbers besieged the camp where some 100 Bangladeshis were living, he said through Viber communication.
The Bangladeshis tried to resist the robbers and even caught two of them red-handed, Ashraful added.
In retaliation, the official said, the robbers came back with increased force opened fire indiscriminately, leaving the 12 Bangladeshis wounded.
They took away 16000 dinars, 12 cellphone sets, he said adding that the rest of the Bangladeshis are out of danger.
The injured Bangladesh nationals have been working as cleaners under city corporations in Ajdabiya over the last couple of years, said the official.
Local police authorities have been informed about the attack and a case has also been filed.
An unofficial source said Humayun of Tangail has been kept in the ICU as his condition is critical.
The other injured are Harunur Rashid, Bazlur Rahman, Mohammad Farid (Tangail), M Awal, Anwar, Sayed, Mohammad Sharif, Mostafa Kamal, Gofran, Mohammad Farid (Jamalpur) and Abul Bashar.
