Govt hinders BNP’s founding anniversary celebration: BNP

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Monday alleged that the government is obstructing party’s 37th founding anniversary celebration at most of the districts and upazilas across the country.

BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon came up with this allegation while addressing a press briefing at the party’s central office today.

He alleged that the law enforcers and the ruling party men are obstructing the celebration in about 50 districts and 450 upazilas.

He further said in many places, BNP activists were beaten up by law enforcers and ruling party men during pasting posters of the founding anniversary and even obstructed making ready balloons for the founding anniversary.

He also alleged that members of law enforcers this morning vandalised a canopy of pro-BNP cultural organisation Zia Sangskritik Sangathan at the graveside of late president Ziaur Rahman where they were scheduled to hold a voluntary blood donation programme.

Vowing strong stand of his party, Ripon said BNP will celebrate its 37th founding anniversary on Tuesday amid government’s obstructions.

BNP will hold discussion at Diploma Engineers Institution in the city at 3:00pm Tuesday to mark the founding anniversary, he added.

The party’s district and metropolitan city units would also celebrate the anniversary holding different programmes according to their conveniences, he said.

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia along with the party’s leaders and activists would place floral wreaths and offer fateha at the graveside of Zia at Shere-e-Bangla Nagar in the city at 10:00 am Tuesday.

The party leaders said that this time BNP is faces main challenge of re-organising the party for launching fresh anti-government movement to restore democracy.
