Family members meet Mojaheed at Dhaka Central Jail
DHAKA: The family members of death-row war criminal Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed entered the Dhaka central jail to meet him on Thursday afternoon.
Twelve members of Mojaheed’s family, including his son Ali Ahmad Mabrur, entered the jail at 1:53 pm, said sources at the jail gate.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Supreme Court upheld its previous verdict on the Jamaat leader, rejecting his plea for reviewing death penalty for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971, keeping no further legal bar for his execution.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha dismissed the review petition of Mojaheed.
Mojaheed has been brought to Dhaka Central Jail from Kashimpur High Security Jail yesterday, right after his review petition was rejected by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
Now his only way to live is to seek and win Presidential clemency.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam yesterday said that now there is no legal bar in executing Mojaheed’s death sentence as the legal process has come to an end with the rejection of the review plea.
